German Ambassador Commends Strong Cooperation Between Germany and Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, October 23, 2026 —
German Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Silke Röfer has commended the strong cooperation between Germany and Cambodia, particularly in mine clearance and unexploded ordnance (UXO) removal, while expressing interest in expanding bilateral economic and investment ties.
The appreciation was expressed during a courtesy call and working meeting with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Friday afternoon.
During the meeting, Ambassador Röfer expressed her pleasure and gratitude for the warm hospitality and welcome extended to her by the Cambodian people and Royal Government. She also expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations and cooperation, noting that 2027 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Germany. She welcomed initiatives to commemorate this important milestone.
The German Ambassador particularly praised the two countries’ cooperation in mine clearance and UXO removal. She also highlighted the interest of German private-sector companies in exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia’s healthcare sector and expressed her desire to strengthen business-to-business (B2B) ties, reflecting the growing business engagement between the two countries.
In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated Ambassador Röfer on her appointment as Germany’s new ambassador to Cambodia. He noted that Cambodia, once devastated by prolonged civil war and a recipient of assistance from United Nations peacekeeping forces, has now become a contributor to international peacekeeping efforts, deploying mine-clearance personnel and Blue Helmet troops to UN missions in various countries.
The Prime Minister underscored the potential for Cambodia and Germany to further strengthen and expand cooperation across a range of sectors, including human resource development, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Regarding investment, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the Cambodian Royal Government’s incentive policies aimed at attracting foreign investment. He affirmed that Cambodia is ready to welcome German private-sector investment as the country transitions from a manufacturing-based economy focused on basic production towards more advanced industries, including the automotive sector and high-tech industries.
Both sides also discussed ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in security and defence, as well as information sharing to combat technology-related threats, particularly online scams and cybercrime.
Samdech Thipadei encouraged Ambassador Röfer to continue working closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in other potential areas.
