The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) on Tuesday conducted a field observation mission in Koh Yor, Koh Kong province, to directly assess the damage caused by an attack carried out by Thai military forces.

According to a press release from the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated the field visit at 10:15 a.m., led by the AOT-KH Head of Mission from the Philippines.

The team visited Koh Yor, located in Pak Khlang village, Pak Khlang commune, Mondol Seima district, where the Thai military forces had fired numerous rounds from 76.2mm deck guns mounted on a Thai naval vessel.

The shelling caused extensive damage to civilian homes, personal property and infrastructure in the area.

The observation and verification mission was intended to provide the AOT-KH with a comprehensive and first-hand understanding of the situation in the border area.

The mission also demonstrated the Royal Government of Cambodia's continued position that border issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and bilateral mechanisms, in accordance with international law, existing bilateral agreements and the mandate of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed Cambodia's firm and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) of Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand of Oct. 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.

The commitment, the Ministry said, aims to facilitate rapid recovery, restore normalcy and promote lasting peace and stability.
