Global South Media Workshop in China Concludes with Focus on Media Modernisation, Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, July 06, 2026 --
A 14-day seminar for media officials and journalists from the Global South concluded successfully in China on Monday, yielding significant achievements in enhancing media technology capabilities and strengthening cooperation between China and Global South nations, particularly Cambodia.
During the closing ceremony of the "Information Officials and Journalists from Global South Countries" seminar on Monday, Mr. He Dongbo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of CBIC, described the two-week programme as an important forum for gaining deep insights into Chinese-style media modernisation.
He noted that during the training segment in Beijing, participants studied the positive factors driving China's development. In Yinchuan, they visited the Baijitan National Nature Reserve, which showcases the ecological philosophy that "humans do not betray green mountains, and green mountains do not betray humans," and observed poverty alleviation achievements in Minning town.
Furthermore, participants explored industrial applications of technology at Zhuse Technology and Lingji Digital Technology, and discussed advanced media development at Ningxia Television.
The CBIC Vice President emphasised that the course also served as a platform for shaping communication strategies for Global South nations. He stated that participants reached a consensus that amid global changes, Global South journalists share a responsibility to break the monopoly of Western discourse and collaborate in building a fair and diverse international communication order.
He added that while the training has concluded, friendship and cooperation remain ongoing, affirming CBIC's continued commitment to promoting cultural exchanges and media cooperation between China and foreign nations.
Representing the Cambodian Ministry of Information officials at the event, Mr. Chuon Chanphearun, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Information and Broadcasting at the Cambodian Ministry of Information, expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese government and the organising committee for their hospitality and the opportunity.
He stated that the seminar exceeded expectations, particularly in providing insights into the rapid advancement of China's media industry, including digitisation, artificial intelligence (AI), and professional media management.
Aside from classroom sessions, the delegation conducted field visits to key sites, including Zooxer Tech to observe advanced AI-driven automated camera technology, and the Beijing Langyuan Station, a former textile warehouse transformed into a modern AIGC (AI-Generated Content) hub.
The Cambodian delegation and other international participants also visited the Great Wall and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to study China's cultural heritage and historical civilisation.
Mr. He Dongbo expressed optimism that the participants will apply the knowledge and experience gained from the seminar within their respective institutions to modernise media operations, enhance communication effectiveness, and further strengthen cooperation and ties between China and the Global South.
