Senate President Calls for Strengthened Protection of Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary
AKP Phnom Penh, July 06, 2026 —
Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on July 6 called on authorities at all levels to strengthen the protection, conservation, and prevention of natural resource offences, particularly in the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary across four provinces: Kratie, Stung Treng, Kampong Thom, and Preah Vihear.
The appeal came during his continued series of meetings with provincial, municipal, district, and commune councils, along with department and unit leaders, totaling 1,026 participants, in Kratie province.
In his address, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his joy at returning to meet with Kratie officials and praised their past efforts. He urged all civil servants, especially commune and Sangkat councilors, to continue fulfilling their duties in service of the nation and the people, with a focus on delivering fast, efficient, and responsive public services.
He specifically instructed local authorities to pay close attention to the well-being of families of soldiers currently deployed to defend the territory, as well as families of war veterans and fallen heroes. He emphasised the immense sacrifice of these soldiers and called for tangible gratitude through caring for their families' livelihoods.
Regarding retired teachers and education officials, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who also serves as President of the Cambodian Veterans and Pensioners Association, clarified that they fall under the Teachers' Association, not the Veterans and Retirees Association. He directed authorities at all levels to continue looking after all veterans and retirees, visiting them regularly and organising programsmes to prevent their isolation, in recognition of their contributions to national development.
The Senate President also urged authorities to resolve land disputes quickly and effectively, particularly through out-of-court mediation, without bias toward any party. He further reminded all officials to maintain national stability, public order, and security by continuing the "Safe Village- Commune" policy, which includes cracking down on theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
According to a report by Kratie Provincial Governor H.E. Va Thorn, the province lies in the northeastern plateau region. Kratie is known for agricultural and agro-industrial crops and has natural tourism sites.
This year, residents celebrated the completion of the Cambodia-China Friendship Mekong Bridge in Kratie, a legacy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and continued under Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet. The bridge and connecting roads serve transport and economic links within Kratie and to other provinces.
This marked Samdech Techo Hun Sen's 16th mission and his visit to 19 provinces and capital to meet with officials, aimed at strengthening accountability between the Senate and its constituents, promoting transparency, improving local governance, and fostering closer ties with grassroots authorities while reminding them to enhance public service delivery.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to protecting Cambodia's natural heritage, particularly the Prey Lang sanctuary, as part of the nation's broader efforts to safeguard its environmental resources for future generations.
