Samdech Techo Hun Sen Emphasises Strengthening Defence and Bilateral Cooperation Between Cambodia and Belarus
AKP Phnom Penh, June 19, 2026 -- Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, underscored the importance of further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Belarus, particularly in the field of national defence as well as other key sectors, with the aim of deepening and consolidating ties between the two countries.
The remarks were made during a courtesy call and working meeting with H.E. Uladzimir Baravikou, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Cambodia, held at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Friday, according to H.E. Chhea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted the traditionally good relations between Cambodia and Belarus and expressed confidence that the Ambassador’s mission in Cambodia would further contribute to strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation in a more comprehensive manner.
The Ambassador of Belarus, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the audience granted by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and recalled the long-standing relations between the two countries. He also highlighted Samdech Techo’s previous visit to Belarus, including in 2014 when he was Prime Minister, which helped further enhance bilateral ties.
The Ambassador noted that Cambodia and Belarus share similar objectives in several areas and therefore should continue to deepen cooperation. He also outlined additional areas of potential collaboration, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, including investment in agricultural machinery such as tractors to support Cambodia’s agricultural development.
He further encouraged enhanced cooperation in civil service and parliamentary exchanges, direct flight connectivity to strengthen people-to-people ties and tourism, as well as increased scholarship opportunities and student exchanges between the two countries.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s proposals, particularly those related to boosting trade, economic cooperation, and investment between Cambodia and Belarus. He further emphasised that both countries should continue to strengthen cooperation in the field of national defence, along with other sectors, to ensure a more robust and deeper bilateral relationship moving forward.
