AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2026 —

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dispute resolution, international solidarity, and respect for international law during the 62nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on June 17.

Delivering Cambodia’s statement under Agenda Item 3 during the Interactive Dialogue with the International Expert on human rights and international solidarity, H.E. Ke Sovann, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations Office in Geneva, welcomed the expert’s report and its emphasis on solidarity, peaceful dispute resolution, inclusion, and dialogue as key foundations for international peace and security.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ke Sovann stressed that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through militarisation, intimidation, or the threat or use of force. He underscored Cambodia’s position that borders and sovereignty must never be changed by force and that disputes should instead be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and full adherence to the UN Charter and international law.

The Ambassador also highlighted that peace remains essential for the promotion and protection of human rights.

As an example of Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful settlement mechanisms, H.E. Ke Sovann referred to Cambodia’s recent decision to initiate compulsory conciliation proceedings under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a constructive and peaceful approach to addressing overlapping maritime claims between Cambodia and Thailand.

He further noted Cambodia’s continued contribution to international peace and solidarity through participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations. Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed more than 10,700 peacekeepers, with 471 personnel currently serving in UN missions worldwide.

Concluding the statement, Cambodia reaffirmed its support for renewed global solidarity for peace and expressed readiness to work with international partners to advance this shared objective.
