AKP Phnom Penh, June 15, 2026 --
Cambodia is stepping up efforts to promote gastronomy diplomacy and religious tourism as part of broader initiatives to attract more visitors from Myanmar and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
During his working visit to Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak on Monday visited the Royal Embassy of Cambodia and held discussions with H.E. Cheng Manith, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Myanmar, diplomatic officials, embassy staff, and representatives of Cambodian investors in Yangon.
On the occasion, the Minister conveyed greetings and appreciation from the Royal Government of Cambodia to embassy personnel for their contribution to enhancing bilateral friendship and cooperation, as well as to Cambodian investors operating in Myanmar.
Highlighting the longstanding friendship between Cambodia and Myanmar, H.E. Huot Hak noted that both countries share deep cultural and civilisational links, particularly through Buddhism, creating strong opportunities to expand religious tourism.
H.E. Huot Hak also underscored the growing importance of Cambodia’s gastronomy diplomacy, describing national cuisine as an effective means of promoting the country’s identity internationally and encouraging greater tourism exchanges.
He encouraged the Cambodian Embassy in Yangon to further advance initiatives that showcase Cambodia’s culinary heritage and religious tourism offerings, identifying them as high-potential tourism products capable of attracting more Myanmar visitors while strengthening mutual understanding between the two peoples.
H.E. Huot Hak expressed appreciation for the embassy’s continued efforts in promoting bilateral relations and supporting the visibility of Cambodia’s tourism sector in the Myanmar market.
He also called for closer cooperation between public and private sector stakeholders to expand promotion of Cambodia’s tourism potential, cultural heritage, cuisine, and religious attractions to a broader audience in Myanmar.
The Tourism Minister is leading a Cambodian delegation to participate in the Mekong Tourism Forum 2026 (MTF 2026) and related programmes in Yangon from June 14 to 17.
