Cambodian Labour Minister Explores Swiss TVET System to Modernise National Skill Training
AKP Phnom Penh, June 11, 2026 -- Cambodia’s Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, H.E. Heng Sour, has visited prominent technical training centres in Switzerland to study the country's vocational education model and accelerate the modernisation of Cambodia’s skills development programmes.
On June 10, Minister Heng Sour toured the SPARK Campus Innovation and Training Centre, the FORPRO Watchmaking School, and an automotive maintenance facility. The visits took place on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva.
During the tour, the Minister examined Switzerland's innovative approach to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), reviewing state-of-the-art equipment used for advanced technology, precision watchmaking, and automotive maintenance engineering.
H.E. Heng Sour also met with Swiss instructors and trainees to discuss the structuring of competency-based curricula designed to align directly with evolving market demands.
The Minister expressed a strong interest in adapting elements of the Swiss TVET system – internationally recognised for its dual-track model combining classroom theory with hands-on workplace apprenticeship – to Cambodia. The insights gained are expected to serve as a framework for modernising Cambodia's vocational training, improving programme quality, and strengthening partnerships between training institutions and the private sector.
Swiss officials welcomed the Cambodian delegation’s interest and shared practical insights into the management and implementation of their vocational system. The hosts expressed a strong willingness to foster future knowledge-sharing and cooperation with Cambodia in key technical fields.
