Cambodia Inaugurates US$40 Million Gold Refinery as Mining Sector Expands
AKP Phnom Penh, April 23, 2026 --
A new gold refinery operated by Cambodian K88 Industry Co., Ltd. was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, marking a significant expansion of Cambodia’s extractive industry.
The refinery, located in the Snang An area spanning Kampong Thom and Kratie provinces, represents a total investment of approximately US$40 million. Minister of Mines and Energy H.E. Keo Rottanak presided over the opening ceremony, which was attended by Provincial Governors H.E. Nuon Pharath of Kampong Thom and Va Thorn of Kratie.
According to company officials, Cambodian K88 Industry began mineral exploration in 2020. Following the discovery of economically viable gold deposits in 2023, the firm moved forward with the construction of the refining facility.
The project is expected to generate direct employment for 375 Cambodian nationals, contribute to national revenue through royalties and taxes, and adhere to international health, safety, and environmental standards.
During the ceremony, Minister H.E. Keo Rottanak emphasised that the investment is a direct result of Cambodia’s long-term peace and political stability, which has fostered a favourable climate for medium- and large-scale investments in the mining sector. He noted that the facility would further diversify the country's industrial base and provide substantial socio-economic benefits.
The site is situated in Sochet commune, Sandan district (Kampong Thom), and extends into Sambo district (Kratie).
