Cambodia, South Korea Boost Water, Environment Ties
AKP Phnom Penh, March 26, 2025 --
Cambodia and South Korea have pledged to deepen cooperation on water resource management and environmental protection.
During his stay in Seoul, Republic of Korea, Cambodian Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology H.E. Thor Chetha met on Mar. 25 with South Korean Environment Minister Wan-sup Kim, focusing on flood and drought mitigation, digital water technology, and infrastructure development.
Discussions centred on four key areas: strengthening water cooperation, knowledge sharing, funding opportunities, and regional water governance within the Mekong River Commission.
South Korea will provide expertise in hydrological modeling and disaster risk management, along with capacity-building programmes for Cambodian officials. Potential grants and loans, including through the Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund, were also discussed.
The Korean Ministry of Environment has previously supported Cambodian hydrology training programmes, highlighting ongoing collaboration between the two nations.
Both ministers committed to continued technical assistance and policy alignment to address water challenges and enhance climate resilience in Cambodia.
