Cambodia Conducts a National Workshop on Dissemination and Follow-up to UPR Fourth Cycle Recommendation
AKP Phnom Penh, March 25, 2025 --
The Cambodian Human Rights Committee in collaboration with the United Nations Human Rights (UNHR) in Cambodia organised here on Mar. 24 a National Workshop on the Dissemination and Follow-up to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Fourth Cycle Recommendations.
According to UNHR in Cambodian’s news release issued on Monday, the workshop brought together Government, civil society and international partners to discuss the concrete steps that Cambodia will take to implement the recommendations.
It aimed to disseminate the UPR recommendations, identify leading ministries and their roles, and facilitate discussions to initiate the development of an implementation plan through a consultative process.
A total of 140 participants (48 women, 91 men and 1 person with diverse gender identity) attended from the Government, civil society, development partners, UN entities and other stakeholders, the same source added.
“Today’s workshop marks a critical step in the most important phase of the UPR cycle: follow-up and implementation,” said Benjamin Moreau, Deputy Representative and Officer-in-Charge, United Nations Human Rights in Cambodia.
“Effective implementation of the UPR recommendations is crucial for achieving tangible improvements in the human rights situation and creating an enabling environment for sustainable development. Such implementation requires leadership, strategic planning, inclusive consultation, cross-sectoral collaboration and adequate resources. For this reason, an important outcome of the workshop will be the creation of Working Groups, led by key ministries or institutions, tasked with developing a comprehensive implementation plan through a consultative process.”
