Cambodian Premier Calls for Clear Update of Archaeological Sites
AKP Phnom Penh, March 05, 2025 --
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this afternoon urged the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to update the archaeological sites in the country.
This is the time to update the list of archaeological sites to ensure the appropriate land use, underlined the Premier while presiding over the celebration of the 27th National Culture Day themed “Youth for National Culture,” and the 6th get-together with Cambodian artists and artistes, held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh.
“For instance, just in 401 square kilometres, there are more than 10,000 archeological sites on the list, but some of them do not exist anymore, therefore we need to update the list to ensure appropriate land use for future generations,” he explained.
The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction are instructed to work together to update and define the sites clearly in order to further protect the national identity as well as to respond to the citizens’ needs, he said.
