CMAC to Create a Workshop for Upcycling of Plastic/Metal from Remnants of War
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2025 --
The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and On The Road (OTR) have entered into a partnership on Technology Transfer for the Upcycling of Plastic/Metal from the remnants of war.
H.E. Heng Ratana, CMAC Director General and Mr. Ayumu TAKAHASHI, President of the OTR Board, signed a cooperation MoU at the CMAC’s Phnom Penh Headquarters on Feb. 24.
According to H.E. Heng Ratana, through this signing agreement, CMAC will establish a workshop for warp, metal, and remnants of war, which will be mentored by Japanese fine artists in Japan and assisted by CMAC, as the manufacturing’s owner, in generating technical materials for production in Cambodia.
This initiative will employ people with disabilities to work in the souvenir market at the Techo Peace Museum in Siem Reap province.
CMAC’s goal is to convert remaining plastic of landmines and metal of the remnants of war into souvenirs for the Techo Peace Museum, as well as to transform a hazardous object into a product that could serve people pleasantly and peacefully.
Following this approach, CMAC will provide landmine victim survivors the opportunity to engage in handicraft, produce creative souvenirs, and sell them at the Techo Peace Museum.
On August 2024, H.E. Heng Ratana also had a get-together with Japanese fine artists who proposed recycling plastic waste from the sea into fancy and affordable souvenirs in Okinawa prefecture.
