Thai War Veterans Delegation Visits Angkor Temples in Siem Reap
AKP Siem Reap, February 11, 2025–
A delegation from the Thai War Veterans Organisation, led by General Detnitit Luangamkum, Director-General of the organisation, visited the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province for a two-day tour on Feb. 10-11.
The delegation was accompanied by General Oum Sok, Deputy Joint Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Chairman of the Cambodian Veterans Association’s Coordination Committee, along with officials from the Siem Reap branch of the association.
During the visit, the delegation explored Ta Prohm, Bayon, and Angkor Wat temples.
General Detnitit Luangamkum expressed deep admiration for the ancient Khmer architecture, praising the craftsmanship of the Angkorian-era builders and the historical significance of these temples.
The Thai delegation leader highlighted that Angkor’s architectural marvels are unique in the world, showcasing Khmer ingenuity and artistry. He noted that these temples continue to attract visitors eager to understand Cambodia’s cultural heritage, contributing significantly to the country’s tourism-driven economy.
The delegation also commended the intricate carvings and lifelike Apsara sculptures, which appear to embody a welcoming spirit. They recognized the artistic and cultural depth embedded in these ancient structures, reflecting Khmer mythology and history.
At Ta Prohm, General Detnitit Luangamkum had an opportunity to meet with Cambodian war veterans who perform traditional Khmer music for visitors. He praised their resilience and dedication, noting that despite their physical disabilities, their spirit remains strong.
He acknowledged their efforts in preserving Khmer traditions and providing for their families through their craft.
Before concluding their visit, the delegation toured the Killing Fields Memorial at Wat Thmei, which commemorates victims of the Khmer Rouge genocide.
At 1:00 PM on Feb. 11, the delegation departed Siem Reap for Phnom Penh by vehicle convoy, continuing their official mission.
