Cambodia’s 2026 Rainy Season Expected to End in Third Week of October
AKP Phnom Penh, October 10, 2026 --
Cambodia’s rainy season is expected to end in the third week of October, as weather patterns shift from the southwest monsoon to the northeast monsoon, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on Oct. 10.
The Ministry said its monitoring and analysis of sea surface temperature changes in the western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and equatorial regions indicated that atmospheric pressure systems, monsoon winds and rainfall patterns were shifting towards the dry season.
As the influence of the southwest monsoon subsides and the northeast monsoon takes over, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease. The Ministry also warned that the El Niño phenomenon is forecast to remain at a 100 percent level through February 2027, while the northeast monsoon is expected to bring relatively low rainfall.
Despite the transition to the dry season, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and other weather phenomena may still occur in some parts of Cambodia.
The Ministry called on the public to use water efficiently and help conserve water resources in preparation for the coming dry season. It also pledged to continue monitoring weather and climate conditions and provide further updates if significant changes occur.
