Cambodia to Mark 20 Years of Contributions to UN Peacekeeping Operations
AKP Phnom Penh, October 10, 2026 -- Cambodia will mark the 20th anniversary of its participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations on Oct. 24, commemorating two decades since the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) first deployed personnel to UN missions in 2006.
The anniversary ceremony will coincide with the official inauguration of newly completed facilities at the Multinational Peacekeeping Forces Training School in Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province.
Cambodia considers the milestone a source of national pride, having transformed from a war-torn country that once hosted UN peacekeepers into a contributor to international peace and security under the UN flag.
Since its first deployment in 2006, Cambodia has sent some 10,000 male and female peacekeepers to 12 missions across 10 countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Mali, the Central African Republic, Syria, Cyprus, Chad, Yemen and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Cambodian peacekeepers have undertaken a range of specialised assignments, including mine and unexploded ordnance clearance, engineering and construction, military police duties, Level 2 hospital services and military observer missions.
Their contributions to UN peacekeeping operations have earned praise and recognition from the United Nations and other countries participating in the missions.
Such recognition has further encouraged Cambodian peacekeepers to continue carrying out humanitarian duties and fulfilling responsibilities entrusted to them by the United Nations, with a focus on protecting civilians and promoting safety in host countries.
Through their participation in international peacekeeping operations, Cambodian forces have contributed their expertise in mine clearance, engineering, military policing, medical services and military observation to support peace and security in conflict-affected areas.
Cambodia’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions reflects its continued commitment to international cooperation and the promotion of global peace and security.
