Cambodia and Japan have signed a Record of Discussions on a project aimed at strengthening Cambodia’s capacity to produce, update and distribute Electronic Nautical Charts (ENCs) to improve navigation safety.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport headquarters on the morning of Sept. 30, with H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, presiding over the event.

According to the Ministry, the signing establishes a mutual agreement between the two sides on the implementation of the project and finalises its detailed project plan, as set out in the relevant documents and annexes, under the framework of the technical cooperation agreement previously signed between the two sides.

During the ceremony, H.E. Peng Ponea expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continued support for Cambodia’s inland waterway, maritime and port sectors.

To ensure the project delivers long-term benefits, the Minister urged the technical team to focus on three key priorities: strengthening coordination among relevant institutions, enhancing the capacity of Cambodian technical officials, and adhering to relevant international standards.
