Cambodia, Japan Strengthen Investment Cooperation at 32nd Joint Committee Meeting
AKP Phnom Penh, October 21, 2026 --
Cambodia and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation, improving the investment environment and enhancing Japanese investors’ confidence in Cambodia.
The commitment was reaffirmed at the 32nd meeting of the Cambodia-Japan Joint Committee under the Agreement between Cambodia and Japan for the Liberalisation, Promotion and Protection of Investment, co-chaired by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and H.E. Ishizuki Hideo, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, on Oct. 21.
Held twice a year, the meeting serves as a regular dialogue mechanism to strengthen bilateral economic ties, address challenges facing Japanese businesses and promote further investment in Cambodia.
The meeting brought together representatives of relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions, members of the Business Co-creation Team (BCT), the Japanese Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office, the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Phnom Penh Office and the AEM-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC).
During the meeting, both co-chairs delivered opening remarks emphasising the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, improving the investment climate and expanding economic and trade cooperation. Mr. Yoshimoto Akira, Chairman of JBAC, also highlighted opportunities and challenges facing Japanese investors in Cambodia.
The Cambodian and Japanese sides held in-depth discussions on priority issues, exchanged views and explored practical solutions to facilitate business operations and investment by Japanese companies.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation between AMEICC and the BCT, alongside progress reports from JICA Cambodia and JETRO Phnom Penh on their activities, achievements and future directions.
The CDC said the meeting served as an important platform for the Royal Government of Cambodia and Japan’s private sector to respond to business concerns and address investment barriers. Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving the investment environment, enhancing transparency and predictability, and building investor confidence to attract and retain Japanese investment for sustainable economic growth.
