Cambodia Attaches Importance to Peaceful Resolution of Border Issues with Thailand: National Assembly President
AKP Phnom Penh, October 20, 2026 --
Cambodia remains committed to resolving border matters with neighbouring Thailand peacefully and strictly within the framework of international law, rejecting any use of military force to alter boundaries, the Head of the country's legislature said on Tuesday.
Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, reaffirmed the Kingdom's position during a meeting with newly appointed German Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Silke Röfer at the National Assembly Palace in Phnom Penh.
H.E. Keo Piseth, Chief of Cabinet and Spokesperson for the National Assembly President, told reporters following the meeting that Cambodia maintains a firm stance against military aggression or unilateral border modifications, upholding multilateralism and the rules-based international order.
During the diplomatic talks, both sides discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, legislative exchanges, and technology.
Samdech Khuon Sudary called on Germany to boost investment in Cambodia, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and agro-industry aimed at global export markets, emphasising Cambodia’s position as a regional gateway within ASEAN and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
The two figures also agreed to deepen parliamentary ties through exchange visits at all levels and broaden cooperation in digital transformation.
Furthermore, Cambodia and Germany are preparing a series of joint events to celebrate the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1967-2027) to further strengthen bilateral friendship and people-to-people ties.
