AKP Phnom Penh, October 12, 2026 --
Cambodia welcomed 28 new Peace Corps volunteers during the swearing-in ceremony of the programme’s 18th cohort in Phnom Penh late last week, highlighting their role in promoting education, community development and people-to-people exchanges between Cambodia and the United States.
The event was presided over by H.E. Vong Meng, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Held at Himawari Hotel Apartment, the ceremony provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Peace Corps’ contribution to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries. H.E. Vong Meng noted that more than 800 Peace Corps volunteers had served in Cambodia since the programme began.
He also expressed Cambodia’s appreciation for the United States’ continued support and underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through cooperation, trust and lasting people-to-people connections.
The Under-Secretary of State encouraged the new volunteers to embrace Cambodian culture and way of life and to serve as ambassadors of friendship, helping deepen understanding and strengthen ties between the Cambodian and American peoples.
