Agreement for the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project Officially Signed
AKP Phnom Penh, September 9, 2026 --
The China Exim Bank and Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Company have officially signed an agreement worth nearly US$1 billion for the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project.
H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), witnessed the historic signing ceremony on Sept. 9 in Xiamen, China.
This landmark event took place during the International Investment Cooperation Event under the theme “Global Wisdom, Mutual Empowerment: International Investment & Cooperation Exchange,” with the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, representatives from Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Co., Ltd., as well as high-ranking dignitaries and numerous international business leaders.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders and governments of both Cambodia and China, China Exim Bank, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and all relevant parties for their sincere and close cooperation in achieving this monumental milestone.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project is a game changer for Cambodia. It not only establishes an inland waterway connection to the sea to reduce logistics costs and enhance competitiveness in the logistics sector, but also creates a "new economic corridor" and serves as a vibrant economic artery.
Through this project, industrial zones, logistics hubs, agricultural processing centres, satellite urban developments, and tourism along the route are expected to thrive over the coming decades.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister also called upon all international business leaders to come to Cambodia, explore investment opportunities in Cambodia, and grow alongside Cambodia, noting that Cambodia stands fully ready to welcome, facilitate, and work together for sustainable success, transforming connectivity into opportunity and investment into true mutual growth.
