Cambodia, Russia Discuss Further Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received H.E. Andrey Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on Aug. 24.
According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to Cambodia, describing it as contributing to the further development and strengthening of bilateral relations.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that Cambodia and Russia are celebrating the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year, highlighting the longstanding ties between the two countries.
For his part, H.E. Andrey Rudenko praised Samdech Techo Hun Sen, saying that he is a Cambodian leader well known among the Russian people and has played an important role in promoting Cambodia-Russia relations and strengthening Cambodia’s role on the international stage.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister also briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on efforts to further increase bilateral trade.
The Senate President welcomed the discussions and expressed satisfaction with Russia’s continued attention to bilateral relations. He also welcomed H.E. Rudenko’s discussions with Prime Minister Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, particularly on trade and economic cooperation, which he described as an additional key pillar of Cambodia-Russia relations.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen recalled the long history of cooperation between Cambodia and Russia, particularly his own role in strengthening bilateral ties from his time as foreign minister through his tenure as prime minister. He noted that he had made numerous visits to Russia and worked with successive Russian leaders over the years.
He also expressed appreciation to the Russian Government for its continued support to Cambodia, particularly in human resource development and training.
During the meeting, H.E. Andrey Rudenko also conveyed that Russian leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, were looking forward to Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s upcoming visit to Russia.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he was currently reviewing possible dates for the visit. He also said Cambodia was ready to welcome a planned visit by the leader of Russia’s United Russia Party to Cambodia.
