Cambodia Earns Three Silver Medals at 2026 SEA Badminton Championships
AKP Phnom Penh, August 19, 2026 --
Cambodia has so far secured three silver medals at the Badminton Asia Southeast Asia Regional Championships 2026, being hosted by Cambodia from Aug. 15 to 21.
According to Mr. Chhit Samean, coach of the Cambodian national badminton team, Cambodian athletes won three silver medals in the team events. The competition features three age categories: U16, U19 and U23.
Although the Cambodian team did not secure gold medals in the team events, the athletes performed well and remain optimistic about achieving further success in the remaining events of the regional championships, he said.
Ms. Loeung Malinich, a Cambodian badminton gold medalist in 2025, expressed her regret after losing to Myanmar in the final. However, she remains confident in her chances of defending her title and winning additional gold medals, as she will compete in two more events, the women’s singles and mixed doubles.
The team event was held from Aug. 15 to 18, while the singles and mixed doubles events will continue until Aug. 21.
The regional championships bring together young badminton athletes from Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Timor Leste, and Vietnam to compete across the three age categories and events.
