Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has encouraged universities across the nation to prioritise the quality of education while urging students to uphold discipline and honesty throughout their academic journey.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony of the Royal University of Law and Economics, held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh on Thursday, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet shared his personal experience from his years of study at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Drawing on his experience, the Prime Minister said universities should not be concerned about students dropping out. Instead, their primary responsibility is to produce highly qualified human resources capable of contributing to Cambodia's national development.

At the same time, he urged students to study diligently and strive to achieve the educational goals set by their universities.

"A university is not merely a place that awards diplomas or high grades. It should provide effective teaching methods and a learning environment that enable students to graduate with both academic qualifications and practical skills. Regardless of their grades, graduates should leave with genuine competence, strong life skills, good character, and the ability to succeed in the real world," he said.

The Prime Minister also stressed that students should not focus solely on obtaining a diploma or achieving a high grade point average (GPA) without developing real competence.

"A diploma and a high GPA alone do not guarantee success. What truly matters is having the knowledge, skills, discipline, honesty, and ability to apply what you have learned," he added.

In Cambodia, there are more than 100 public and private higher education institutions.
