AKP Phnom Penh, July 24, 2026 -- First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet presided over the official opening ceremony of the 3rd Cambodia Wedding Fair 2026 on Friday, praising the event's annual expansion as a vital platform for connecting wedding service providers with couples seeking a deeper understanding of Khmer matrimonial traditions.

Expressing her gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for providing technical guidance on the historical evolution of traditional attire, Dr. Pich Chanmony emphasised that marriage marks a pivotal moment for couples to build a happy family grounded in love, loyalty, responsibility, and harmony while honouring the legacy of their ancestors.

Addressing the shifts in wedding attire and styling over time, the First Lady noted that while social evolution fosters creative adaptation, modernisation must preserve cultural roots. "Innovation should complement and enhance original forms, not discard their foundational meaning," she stated.

To keep traditional ceremonies vibrant and meaningful, Dr. Pich Chanmony urged relevant ministries and institutions to expand research and educational outreach on traditional Khmer weddings for youth and industry providers. She called on business operators in the wedding sector to innovate responsibly, ensuring creative approaches elevate Khmer customs without eroding their inherent symbolism, while encouraging prospective couples to study the significance of core rituals prior to their nuptials.

Furthermore, she emphasised the importance of prioritising Cambodian products, flowers, fruits, and handicrafts to support local artisans, entrepreneurs, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and called on partners to maintain the fair as an ongoing platform for education and collective cultural preservation.

Now in its third edition, the three-day fair aims to safeguard ancestral heritage and showcase Cambodian wedding traditions to an international audience.

Aligning with the national population policy led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the event highlights the importance of strong family units, encourages legal and traditional unions, and supports demographic balance to sustain a capable workforce for national development.
