CMEC President: Cambodia's Political Stability, Rapid Growth Offer High Investor Confidence
AKP Phnom Penh, July 16, 2026 — Mr. Fang Yanshui, President of the China Machinery Engineering Corporation Group (CMEC), stated that Cambodia's robust political stability and rapid economic growth have instilled high confidence for the corporation to expand its investments in the Southeast Asian nation.
The remarks were made during a courtesy call and working discussion with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Cambodian Premier's official working visit to the People's Republic of China, where he is attending the World Artificial Intelligence Conference from July 15 to 17.
Mr. Fang expressed deep gratitude to the relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions for their unwavering cooperation and full support of CMEC’s business operations over the years.
He emphasised that Cambodia’s enduring political stability and rapid development serve as a solid foundation that ensures a secure and highly predictable environment for foreign investors.
Highlighting CMEC’s footprints in the Kingdom, Mr. Fang briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of the company’s operations since entering the Cambodian market in 2008, focusing primarily on energy and infrastructure development.
Currently, CMEC is cooperating closely with local partners to construct a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power plant in Koh Kong province. Mr. Fang expressed his satisfaction with CMEC's contribution to the development of Cambodia's energy sector, aimed at securing the country's future energy security and independence.
Furthermore, the CMEC president conveyed the company's keen interest in exploring new opportunities to scale up investments in the energy and agricultural sectors. He added that CMEC is actively engaging with various enterprises in China to encourage them to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia's high-potential industries.
In response, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated CMEC on its global business triumphs as well as its successful investment trajectory in Cambodia. He highly commended the fruitful partnership between CMEC and its local counterpart in the LNG power project.
The Cambodian leader underscored that the energy sector remains a critical pillar for national development, making the assurance of energy security an absolute priority.
He emphasised that investing in Cambodia’s energy sector does not merely cater to domestic demand but also positions the country to potentially supply energy to other ASEAN member states in the future, aligned with the framework of the ASEAN Power Grid policy.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia's steadfast commitment to supporting and ensuring the success of all foreign investments in the country.
He warmly welcomed CMEC's intention to explore further investment opportunities across Cambodia's potential sectors in the near future.
