AKP Phnom Penh, July 16, 2026 —
Cambodia's National Assembly is fully prepared to host the 9th Asia-Pacific Parliamentarian Forum on Global Health (9th APPF-GH) this August, with senior officials reaffirming the country's commitment to ensuring a successful and smoothly organised international event.
The announcement came during a meeting on July 15 between H.E. Dr. Keo Piseth, Permanent Deputy Secretary-General of the National Assembly, and a regional delegation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) led by Dr. Genevieve Howse, Coordinator for Legislation and Governance at WHO WPRO, at the National Assembly Palace.
H.E. Dr. Keo Piseth, who also serves as Chief of Cabinet to the President of the National Assembly, stressed that Cambodia is well-prepared to host the forum, noting that a series of coordination meetings at various levels have been held to ensure thorough preparations and uphold the reputation of both the National Assembly and the WHO.
He highlighted the National Assembly's extensive experience in hosting major national and international parliamentary events, emphasising the close cooperation among all relevant departments to guarantee the forum's success and reflect Cambodia's growing role in regional health governance.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the draft programme, participating delegations, speaker and moderator roles, and the forum's key discussion themes. Outstanding logistical issues were addressed, with agreed measures to ensure seamless execution.
Cambodian officials also briefed the WHO delegation on field visit programmes to leading healthcare centres in Kampot province, demonstrating the country's capacity to showcase its health sector achievements. Venue arrangements, hospitality protocols, and other logistical preparations were also discussed in detail.
The meeting also reviewed the draft Phnom Penh Communiqué, which is expected to be adopted at the forum's conclusion, underscoring Cambodia's leadership in shaping regional health policy discussions.
The 9th APPF-GH, scheduled for August 2026, is expected to be a landmark event for Cambodia, attracting extensive national and international media coverage and reinforcing the Kingdom's readiness to host high-level multilateral gatherings.
