AKP Phnom Penh, July 15, 2026—
Cambodia and Mauritania have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and scaling up collaboration within the Francophonie network as Phnom Penh prepares to host the landmark 20th Francophonie Summit this November.
The diplomatic push was cemented during a meeting on Tuesday afternoon between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, and the Mauritanian Minister Secretary General of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Moctar Lam, who is currently on an official working visit to the Kingdom.
Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers welcomed the steady progress of bilateral relations, pointing to growing cooperation in diplomacy, trade, and economic development.
A central focus of the talks shifted to multilateral strategy, specifically within the framework of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). Both sides emphasized the need for stronger dialogue and solidarity among French-speaking nations to tackle shared global challenges.
The ministers also reviewed ongoing logistical and strategic preparations for the November summit in Phnom Penh. The high-stakes event is expected to draw leaders and delegates from the OIF’s 90 member states and governments, putting Cambodia at the centre of the Francophone world's shared economic and cultural priorities.
