Japan’s Lion Corporation Eyes Factory Investment in Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, July 13, 2026—
Japanese consumer goods giant Lion Corporation is launching a detailed feasibility study to establish a manufacturing plant in Cambodia, signaling rising international confidence in the Kingdom’s industrial potential.
The investment plan was finalized during a high-level meeting in Phnom Penh on July 13 between H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and a Lion Corporation delegation led by Takenobu Yamamoto.
Lion Corporation, a major Japanese multinational established in 1891, is a household name across Asia, manufacturing beauty and hygiene essentials including shampoo, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. While the company already operates robust production hubs in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, this move marks its first major manufacturing push into the Cambodian market.
Delegation leaders cited Cambodia's highly favorable business environment and rapidly improving investment climate as the primary drivers behind the expansion.
H.E. Chea Vuthy welcomed the delegation, expressing appreciation for Lion Corporation’s trust in the Kingdom. He emphasized that the Royal Government of Cambodia remains deeply committed to boosting regional competitiveness through aggressive infrastructure development and tailored private-sector support measures designed to navigate the shifting global economy.
The Secretary General urged the corporate leadership to accelerate their investment timeline, encouraging them to leverage the specialized infrastructure and logistics advantages offered by Cambodia's Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
