Cambodian King: Preserving and Developing Cultural Heritage Is a Never-Ending Mission

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has emphasised that the preservation and development of Cambodia's cultural heritage is "a never-ending mission" that requires the active participation of all sectors of society, both nationally and internationally, particularly the younger generation.
His Majesty the King's message was issued on July 7 to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the inscription of the Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk on the UNESCO World Heritage List (July 8, 2017 - July 8, 2026).
In his royal message, His Majesty expressed profound joy and extended his congratulations on this special day and highly praised the continued preservation and sustainable management of Sambor Prei Kuk, describing its World Heritage status as a source of pride for Cambodia and a testament to the country's commitment to safeguarding its rich cultural legacy.
His Majesty also paid tribute to the late King Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk for his lifelong dedication to protecting Cambodia's cultural heritage, recognising his enduring contribution to preserving the nation's historical and cultural identity.
The King further expressed appreciation to the Cambodian people and acknowledged the efforts of successive Royal Government in securing international recognition for Cambodia's cultural treasures. He commended the leadership of former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and current Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet for their roles in promoting and preserving the country's cultural and historical heritage for future generations.
His Majesty also thanked the Royal Government, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Sambor Prei Kuk National Authority, the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of Sambor Prei Kuk (ICC-Angkor/Sambor Prei Kuk), co-chaired by representatives of France and Japan, as well as all national and international partners for their continued support in protecting and developing the archaeological site.
Sambor Prei Kuk was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 8, 2017, during the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee held in Kraków.
