Japan Reaffirms Support for Cambodia's Education
AKP Phnom Penh, July 02, 2026 --
Japan has reaffirmed its continued support for Cambodia in the education sector, specifically the expansion of student exchange programme, Japanese language teaching, teacher development, and ICT cooperation.
The reaffirmation was made by H.E. MATSUMOTO Yohei, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, during a meeting with H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport in Tokyo, Japan on July 1.
In the meeting, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their significant contribution to the peace-seeking and nation-building process, and human resources development in Cambodia through the provision of scholarships, teacher training, construction of teacher training centres, support for the sports sector, and conservation of Angkor Wat Temple.
The two sides reiterated their commitments to further strengthening and expanding the friendship ties and strategic partnership between Cambodia and Japan, which have been built solidly over the past seven decades.
They were positive that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries will continue to advance and contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity of both nations.
On the same day, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron also held talks with H.E. Mrs. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries through the cooperation on education, teacher training, human resources development, the private sector cooperation, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
