Cambodia Facilitates AOT’s Visit to Assess Border Situation in Banteay Meanchey Province
AKP Phnom Penh, June 23, 2026 -- Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) has facilitated a field visit by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to assess conditions along the Cambodia-Thailand border and monitor implementation of agreed ceasefire measures.
According to the press release issued this afternoon by the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, led by the AOT’s Head of Mission from the Philippines, the field mission was conducted on June 23 at 9:38 a.m. at Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
The visit was conducted to observe, verify, and report on the situation in the area, which had been affected by attacks, the installation of barbed wire, and the deployment of container structures by Thai military forces. As a result, many affected Cambodian families have not yet been able to return to their homes.
The mission also included monitoring compliance with and implementation of measures contained in the Joint Statement issued following the entry into force of the ceasefire.
Cambodia reiterated its position that it does not recognise any alteration of border lines resulting from the use of force and emphasised the importance of resuming border demarcation work through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
The statement referred to Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025, which prioritises the continuation of survey and demarcation work to facilitate the safe, peaceful, and dignified return of affected civilians.
Cambodia also reaffirmed its continued support for the AOT and highlighted the importance of strengthening the team’s role and mandate to verify and ensure effective implementation of the ceasefire and agreed measures between the two countries.
According to the statement, Cambodia remains open to support from friendly countries willing to contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and mutual confidence in maintaining peace and stability along the border.
