Cambodian Adventurer Returns Home After 57,000-KM Charity Cycling Mission Across 40 Countries
AKP Phnom Penh, June 23, 2026 --
Prominent Cambodian adventurer Tiv Dararith returned to his homeland on Monday evening, successfully completing an extraordinary two-year, 40-country transcontinental cycling expedition aimed at raising funds for pediatric healthcare in Cambodia.
Dararith touched down at Techo International Airport on June 22 to a warm reception from supporters and media, marking the conclusion of a grueling 57,000-kilometre journey that spanned Asia, Europe, and South Africa.
"Over this nearly 60,000-kilometre adventure, I encountered incredible experiences and met countless people," Dararith told reporters upon his arrival. "I am already beginning to miss the open road, though I likely will not embark on an expedition of this scale again. I look forward to creating content to share these road stories with everyone."
The cross-continental mission commenced exactly two years ago on June 6, 2024, departing from the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap province.
Reflecting on the psychological and physical tolls of the journey, Dararith admitted that homesickness and severe hardships frequently tested his resolve. "It is difficult to describe the feeling of being back, but I missed home deeply. There were numerous obstacles—at one point, I fell so gravely ill that I nearly lost my life.
Those moments made me yearn for home intensely, but today I am incredibly grateful to have arrived back safely."
Dararith emphasised that pride in his heritage kept him moving forward. "When I first set out, I promised the hospitals, the public, and my supporters that no matter what happened, I would reach the finish line. I have fulfilled that promise.
Throughout these 40 countries, I proudly shared Cambodia’s rich culture, traditions, and heritage with everyone I met. The international community was deeply supportive of this humanitarian cause."
The primary objective of the expedition was to secure US$250,000 in charitable donations for Cambodian children's hospitals. To date, the initiative has raised US$220,000. Dararith expressed optimism that the public would contribute the remaining US$30,000 to hit the final target as the campaign wraps up.
To officially conclude his humanitarian mission, Dararith plans to embark on a final three-day ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. His itinerary also includes holding media interviews, hosting closing charity events at the Kantha Bopha and Angkor Hospital for Children facilities, and producing both a short documentary film and a commemorative book titled "Two Years on a Bike."
