Over 700 Foreigners Checked, 24 Held in Phnom Penh Cybercrime Sweep
AKP Phnom Penh, June 01, 2026 --
Cambodian authorities have wrapped up a three-day crackdown on suspected online scam centres, inspecting 81 locations and checking more than 700 foreign nationals across the capital.
The operation, running from May 28 to 30, targeted condominiums, apartments, gated communities, guesthouses, and hotels in all 14 Khans (districts) of Phnom Penh.
Officials said the raids were ordered directly by Municipal Governor H.E. Khoung Sreng.
Spokesperson Ms. Dor Samphors told reporters that officers recorded 705 foreign residents, including 174 women. Among them, 24 foreigners were found without passports or valid legal documents and have been transferred to municipal police for further processing.
In parallel, authorities fined property owners and managers who violated local regulations. Under Sub-Decree No. 03, four locations involving 19 individuals were penalised, collecting 76 million Riels (about US$19,000).
The crackdown is part of an intensified citywide effort to dismantle technology-driven fraud operations.
