Interior Ministry Dismisses Fabricated Reports Alleging Africans Ordered to Leave Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, May 29, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior has strongly rejected fabricated reports published by two Ghana-based media outlets alleging that African nationals with expired immigration waivers were ordered to leave Cambodia by May 31, 2026.
In a statement of clarification issued on May 29, the Ministry said the websites “Campaigner Online” and “News Ghana” published an English-language article titled: “Cambodia Orders Africans with Expired Immigration Waivers to Leave by May 31, 2026,” accompanied by a falsified notice purportedly issued by Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration.
The Ministry of Interior categorically rejected the fabricated document and the dissemination of false information, describing the publications as a deliberate attempt to distort facts, mislead international public opinion, and damage Cambodia’s reputation and image.
The Ministry firmly clarified that Cambodia has never adopted any policy ordering African nationals to leave the country, as falsely alleged in the reports.
“Cambodia has consistently welcomed all foreigners who fully comply with applicable legal requirements, including businesspersons, investors, tourists, and foreign workers, to enter and reside in Cambodia without any discrimination,” the statement stressed.
The Ministry of Interior also called on national and international media outlets to uphold professionalism and responsibility when disseminating information in order to avoid creating misunderstanding and misinformation about Cambodia within the international community.
Earlier, the General Department of Immigration also issued a separate press clarification rejecting the false reports.
