6 Chinese Nationals Arrested in Phnom Penh Hotel Raid Over Suspected Online Scam, Drug Violations
AKP Phnom Penh, May 29, 2026 —
Cambodian authorities have raided a local hotel in Phnom Penh, arresting six Chinese nationals and seizing electronic equipment suspected of being used in cyber-scam operations, along with illegal drugs and ammunition, local police said Friday.
The joint operation, conducted on Thursday at the "6668" Hotel located along Northbridge Road in Khan Sen Sok, was ordered by Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khoung Sreng and National Police Deputy Chief Chuon Narin, under the coordination of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court's prosecution.
According to authorities, the raid uncovered a network of criminal activities ranging from cyber fraud to immigration and drug offenses. Among the six Chinese suspects detained: two were found holding valid passports, though one had an expired visa; two lacked any passport documentation; two were found using forged passports.
During the search of a fifth-floor storage room, police confiscated three laptops, 74 smartphones, and a computer monitor. A specialised forensic examination by the Anti-Cybercrime Bureau concluded that the devices were utilised for hosting illicit online scam operations.
A further search of Room 501 uncovered a quantity of suspected illicit drugs, five rounds of handgun ammunition, a Chinese police identification card, and four sets of Royal Gendarmerie uniforms.
Authorities have separated the suspects and evidence to proceed with legal action: three suspects facing immigration violations have been handed over to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police's Investigation and Procedure Bureau.
The remaining three—the hotel manager and the two individuals holding forged passports—were transferred to Khan Sen Sok Police Inspectorate.
The cyber-related equipment and narcotics have been dispatched to their respective specialized bureaus within the municipal police office for deeper investigation.
The hotel manager, identified as Chen Guilin, reportedly agreed to comply with administrative fines for harboring illegal foreign nationals.
The crackdown follows strict directives from Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, who has ordered national police and local authorities to aggressively dismantle cyber-fraud networks to safeguard public security and protect the country's international reputation.
