AKP Beijing, May 21, 2026 --
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China recently hosted the first Presentation Ceremony for the Outstanding Diplomat Medal, honouring eight ambassadors for their distinguished service and contributions to strengthening bilateral relations with China.
The inaugural medals were presented to ambassadors from Russia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, and Uruguay.
Speaking at the event held earlier this week in Beijing, H.E. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, stated that diplomatic envoys serve as bridges for friendly exchanges and noted that the medal was established to recognise those who have strengthened bilateral ties and people-to-people connections.
Among the honourees was H.E. Ms. Khek Cai Mealy Sysoda, former Ambassador of Cambodia to China, who expressed her sincere appreciation to the Chinese government for the recognition.
Speaking to Cambodian journalists attending the ceremony, she said the award reflects the enduring friendship and deepening cooperation between Cambodia and China throughout her diplomatic tenure.
“This is not only the first ceremony of its kind, but also the first diplomatic medal I have ever received,” she added.
The ceremony highlighted China’s commitment to honouring diplomats who have played significant roles in fostering mutual understanding, cooperation, and long-term partnerships.
A journalist from Cambodia’s state-run Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) attended and reported on the ceremony, underscoring Cambodia’s continued engagement in regional diplomacy and international cooperation.
Approximately 300 participants, including diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organisations, attended the historic event.
