Royal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Veterans and Retirees
AKP Phnom Penh, May 15, 2026 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia will continue to pay close attention to veterans and retirees who have contributed and sacrificed for the nation and its people, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet affirmed on Friday.
Speaking at the celebration of the 19th Cambodia Veterans and Retirees Day held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, who also serves as First Vice President of the Cambodian Veterans and Pensioners Association, stressed the Royal Government’s continued commitment to improving the welfare of veterans and retirees across the country.
The Prime Minister said the Royal Government will continue building houses for veterans and introduce additional support policies aimed at improving the living conditions of all veterans and retired civil servants.
Samdech Thipadei highlighted the important role and sacrifices made by veterans and former state employees in contributing to national development, peace, and social stability.
For his part, H.E. Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, said Cambodia currently has 177,281 veterans and retirees receiving monthly social security benefits from the Royal Government.
According to the Minister, veterans and former civil servants now receive a minimum social security allowance of 845,000 Riel, or approximately US$210 per month, while family allowances have also been gradually increased.
H.E. Chea Somethy added that the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has been working closely with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to prepare reserve budgets for social insurance payments to families of retirees, people who have lost the ability to work, and beneficiaries entitled to funeral and one-time support allowances.
