Samdech Techo Hun Sen Urges Svay Rieng Authorities to Enhance Border Cooperation with Vietnam
AKP Phnom Penh, May 14, 2026 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sèn, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has urged authorities in Svay Rieng province to further strengthen cooperation along the Cambodia-Vietnam border in order to facilitate closer people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The remarks were made during a meeting with more than 1,300 provincial, municipal, district, commune, and Sangkat council members, as well as leaders of provincial departments and institutions, held at Svay Rieng University on Thursday morning.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo reminded civil servants, especially commune and Sangkat council members, to continue fulfilling their duties in serving the nation and the people effectively. He stressed the importance of improving the delivery of essential public services and accelerating the issuance of land titles to citizens in order to avoid local disputes and dissatisfaction.
The Acting Head of State also called on local authorities to pay greater attention to frontline soldiers, disabled veterans, fallen soldiers’ families, and former combatants. Drawing from his own experience as a former soldier, he emphasised the sacrifices made by the armed forces in defending the nation, territory, and people.
In addition, Samdech Techo encouraged local authorities to actively participate in protecting natural resources, preventing environmental destruction, and preserving resources for future generations. He also warned officials against inactivity or abuse of power, stressing that “officials are not masters of the people, but loyal servants of the people,” and urged them to remain close to citizens and responsive to their needs.
According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, spokesperson for Samdech Techo, the outreach mission to local provinces began on April 25, 2026. So far, Samdech Techo has visited six provinces, including Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep.
The spokesperson added that the purpose of these meetings is to strengthen accountability between the Senate and its electorate, promote transparency, improve the effectiveness of local administration, and remind local officials to pay closer attention to their responsibilities and the delivery of public services to citizens.
