Cambodian Defence Ministry Rejects Thai Media Claims of Gunfire at O’Smach Border Checkpoint

The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has strongly rejected reports by certain Thai media outlets alleging that Cambodian forces fired 11 rounds at the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province.
According to a statement released on Wednesday evening by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, the reports published on May 13, 2026, are false and seriously distort the facts.
“The Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia categorically denies these allegations, confirming that they constitute false information and a serious distortion of the truth,” the statement said.
Cambodia has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and good order along the border with Thailand in accordance with existing agreements and through peaceful cooperation mechanisms.
