AKP Phnom Penh, May 08, 2026 -- The Royal Government of Cambodia is strongly committed to completely eradicating online scams from Cambodia through the implementation of cooperation mechanisms with international partners alongside the enforcement of the Law on Combating Technology-enabled Scams, aiming to ensure the safety and protect the people’s interests.

The remarks were highlighted by H.E. Ms. YENTIENG Puthirasmey, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), during a meeting here on May 7 with H.E. Ambassador LIM Sang-Woo, Government Representative of the Republic of Korea for Overseas Korean Protection and Consular Affairs.

According to the MFAIC, during the meeting, both sides exchanged views on combating transnational crimes, such as online scams, human trafficking, and money laundering, as well as strengthening cooperation on consular affairs, to further enhance the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Law on Combating Technology-Enabled Scams, which was proclaimed by Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on April 6, 2026, comprises five chapters and 24 articles. It establishes five new criminal offences: technology-based fraud; organising or leading an online scam centre; recruiting or training others to commit such fraud; maliciously collecting personal identification documents or information; and a specific form of money laundering. Convictions carry penalties of up to life imprisonment, fines of up to 1 billion Riel (approximately US$250,000), and asset seizure.
