Cambodia Eyes Formal Accreditation of Oxford-AQA Qualifications as British Curriculum Demand Surges
AKP Phnom Penh, May 08, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, has opened high-level talks with Oxford University Press (OUP) on formally recognising British international qualifications, a move that could embed IGCSE and A-Level credentials into the country’s state education system.
Acting Minister H.E. Dr. Kim Sethany met OUP representatives on Thursday, alongside British Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Dominic Williams, to review the "International Education Initiative."
Central to the discussions was the potential accreditation of OxfordAQA qualifications – a joint venture between OUP and the UK’s largest exam board, AQA.
"These proposals require detailed review," Dr. Sethany said, stressing that teacher standards and curriculum quality must come first. Any integration would need to deliver "maximum benefits to Cambodian youth."
The push follows rapid expansion of British-standard schooling in Cambodia: the Oxford International Programme now operates across 12 campuses, serving over 3,000 students. Officials say formal recognition would meet rising local demand for globally recognised academic pathways, particularly from the British system.
