Cambodia Takes Thai Border Dispute to the World Stage, Presents ‘Irrefutable Evidence’ to Diplomats
AKP Phnom Penh, May 08, 2026 --
In a high-stakes diplomatic move to safeguard national sovereignty, the Second Vice President of the Cambodian Senate, H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana, led a delegation of senior officials and international diplomats to the tense border region of Prey Chan village on Thursday.
The delegation included representatives from global powers and regional partners, including China, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, and Japan. The mission aimed to provide first-hand verification of alleged military encroachments by Thailand in the O’ Chrov district of Banteay Meanchey province.
During the site inspection, Cambodian officials presented irrefutable evidence of Thai military activity within Cambodian territory. Observers were shown shipping containers and barbed-wire fences allegedly installed by Thai forces in violation of international law.
The Cambodian side reported extensive damage to local infrastructure resulting from the standoff, citing impacts on public schools and sacred pagodas. Furthermore, officials noted the destruction of private property and residential homes, which has severely disrupted the daily lives and food security of local villagers.
Speaking to the gathered diplomatic corps, H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana emphasised that the visit was designed to highlight the reality on the ground.
"Cambodia continues to exercise the utmost restraint and remains fully committed to dialogue," he stated. "We seek peace and friendship, but such peace must be anchored in international law and mutual respect for sovereignty."
The Senate leader further noted that despite the "unjust" developments at the border, Cambodia is choosing a path of political maturity.
The mission serves as a clear signal to the international community that Cambodia favours multilateral mechanisms and transparency over the use of force. By engaging foreign envoys, the Royal Government and the Senate reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the dispute through peaceful negotiation and existing legal frameworks while maintaining the integrity of Cambodia’s borders and the safety of its citizens.
