APF Political Committee Meeting Kicks Off in Siem Reap Province

The Political Committee Meeting of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) kicked off today in Siem Reap province, bringing together representatives from APF member delegations, as well as national and international experts.
The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Ouch Borith, Acting President of the Senate and Chairman of the Cambodian Parliamentary Group to the APF, and H.E. Cheang Vun, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Auditing, and Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Parliamentary Group to the APF.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Guillaume Chevrollier, Chairman of the APF Political Committee and Senator of France, along with Francophone parliamentarians from 15 countries, representatives of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), and senior officials from the General Secretariats of the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly.
Held from May 3 to 4, the meeting focuses on in-depth discussions on key strategic issues, including:
1. Review of the old work: Approve the summary of the decision made at the meeting in Paris in July 2025;
2. Human rights and legal issues: Discuss the situation of the death penalty in French-speaking member countries to find common ground;
3. Political stability: Review and monitor the current political situation in the Francophone region and update the activities of each national parliamentary group;
4. Parliament's Role to Peace: Discuss the APF's central role in maintaining regional and global stability, emphasising the need to make peace a major driving force for sustainable development.
“Hosting this meeting clearly reflects the active role of the Cambodian Parliament in promoting a culture of peace and international cooperation among French-speaking countries, as well as showcasing the potential and prestige of Siem Reap on the international stage,” underlined the Cambodian National Assembly.
