Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Long-Term Crackdown on Online Scam Networks
AKP Phnom Penh, April 24, 2026 --
Cambodia has reaffirmed that the fight against online scam operations remains a top national priority, following intensified enforcement actions over the past nine months.
The commitment was outlined in a press release issued this afternoon by the Office of the Spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC).
“Combating online scams is a long-term endeavour requiring the involvement of all stakeholders locally and internationally,” reaffirmed the RGC, urging the public and the international community to recognise and support Cambodia's active and concrete efforts in combating online scams.
According to the press release, over the past nine months, from July 2025 to mid-April 2026, Cambodia has clearly demonstrated its will and determination to suppress online scams through the nationwide plan and campaign.
During that period, Cambodian authorities have cracked down on more than 250 cases of online scams, including the closure of 91 casino locations, and have filed 112 cases with the courts, involving approximately 1,089 suspects (accused persons), including Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, South Korean, Singaporean, and Cambodian nationals.
“As a result of the nationwide campaign to crack down on online scams from early 2025 to April 19, 2026, Cambodian authorities have carried out procedures to deport a total of 13,039 foreign nationals involved in online scams, including 1,509 women, of 33 different nationalities,” the press release stated.
From mid-January to April 19, 2026, a total of 241,888 individuals have voluntarily departed Cambodia, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Indian, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani nationals, it added.
During the plenary session of the Council of Ministers held yesterday at the Peace Palace, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, expressed appreciation and conveyed gratitude to the relevant authorities and all levels of armed forces for their active efforts in suppressing online scams, achieving numerous significant results.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei issued the strictest directive to all relevant authorities and forces to continue intensifying the crackdown on such offences with no tolerance.
The Premier emphasised that the legal framework is already in place; therefore, it must be enforced rigorously and effectively, without leniency and exception. In other words, enforcement efforts must not cease even during or after the Khmer New Year holiday, contrary to some views that had been raised.
These are the commitment and concrete actions of the Royal Government of Cambodia in combating online scams.
This commitment reflects Cambodia's determination to safeguard social security, protect the safety and well-being of all citizens, and uphold the dignity and honoor of Cambodia on the international stage.
