PM Hun Manet: Territory Unlawfully Occupied by Thailand Remain Cambodia's Legal and Indisputable Property
AKP Phnom Penh, April 09, 2026--
Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has reaffirmed Cambodia’s position on the Cambodia-Thailand border issue during a bilateral meeting with French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron in Paris on April 8.
Speaking at a press conference at Techo International Airport at noon upon the Prime Minister’s return, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister H.E. Jean-François Tan said Samdech Thipadei raised three key points regarding the border situation, presenting the facts without exaggeration or distortion.
According to H.E. Jean-François Tan, Samdech Thipadei informed the French President that tensions persist along the Cambodian-Thai border due to the presence of Thai troops deep inside Cambodian territory, where they have unlawfully occupied certain areas. He noted that these actions have resulted in the destruction of Cambodian homes, prevented tens of thousands of residents from returning, and led to the construction of physical infrastructure in the occupied zones.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm position in rejecting any “fait accompli” on the ground or any alteration of the border by force. He stressed that, despite being unlawfully occupied, these areas remain the legal and indisputable property of Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei also reiterated Cambodia’s strong commitment to resolving all border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, relevant conventions and treaties, and bilateral agreements between the two countries.
H.E. Jean-François Tan added that both Samdech Thipadei and President Macron shared a common view on maintaining global peace and stability based on respect for international law, multilateralism, dialogue, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
He further called on the Cambodian public to place their trust in the Royal Government in its efforts to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, which remain its highest priorities.
