PM Hun Manet Urges Stronger Support for Khmer Products to Boost National Economy
AKP Phnom Penh, April 09, 2026 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called for stronger nationwide support for Cambodian products, underscoring their importance in strengthening the national economy and enhancing self-reliance.
In a message marking the 9th National Day for the Promotion of Cambodian Products, held on April 9 under the theme “Khmer Produce, Khmer Use, Khmer Prosper,” the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s progress from post-conflict recovery to sustained economic growth, driven by peace, stability, and sound policy direction.
He noted that Cambodia’s rapid development over recent decades has been made possible by lasting peace and national unity, laying a solid foundation for economic expansion and improved living standards. These achievements, he added, continue to support the Royal Government’s long-term vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050.
Samdech Thipadei emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening domestic production, particularly in the face of global economic uncertainties and regional challenges. Promoting locally made products, he said, not only supports Cambodian producers but also reinforces economic sovereignty and national resilience.
The Prime Minister highlighted the “One Village, One Product” initiative as a key driver of grassroots economic development, helping transform local goods into competitive commercial products, generate employment, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen community-based economies.
He also pointed to the growing quality, diversity, and market potential of Cambodian products, noting that many locally made goods are increasingly meeting domestic demand and gaining consumer confidence. Supporting these products, he stressed, is both an economic choice and an expression of national pride.
Samdech Thipadei called on ministries, institutions, and stakeholders to further enhance cooperation in improving product quality, expanding market access, and supporting small and medium enterprises. He also encouraged continued efforts to promote innovation, increase value-added production, and reduce reliance on imports.
Urging citizens to prioritise the use of Khmer products, he affirmed that collective support from consumers, producers, and institutions would play a crucial role in building a strong, resilient, and inclusive national economy.
