Cambodia Welcomes Vietnamese Officers to AOT
AKP Phnom Penh, March 29, 2026 --
Cambodia has welcomed two military officers from Vietnam to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) tasked with monitoring the Cambodia-Thailand border situation following the recent ceasefire.
According to a press release issued by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, the Cambodia Liaison Group (CLG) received COL. Ngo Xuan Truong and LTC. Bui Xuan Duong at Techo International Airport at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The two Vietnamese officers will serve under the AOT led by the Philippines, the current ASEAN Chair. The team is responsible for observing, verifying, and reporting on developments along the border to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire and all terms outlined in the Joint Statement.
Cambodia reiterated its full support for the AOT, stressing the importance of strengthening the team’s role and mandate to ensure that agreements between Cambodia and Thailand are carried out comprehensively and effectively. The participation of friendly countries is seen as a means to promote transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm and unwavering commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025, as well as the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and other related accords.
These efforts aim to support rapid recovery, restore normalcy along the border, and ensure long-term peace and stability between the two neighbouring countries.
