AKP Phnom Penh, March 27, 2026 --
Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak has underscored the important role of sports in fostering peace and promoting tourism, describing them as a powerful combination to boost the sector in a dynamic and sustainable way.
Speaking during a 5-kilometre fun run held in Kratie province on Friday, the Minister said that “sports are a bridge for peace,” particularly when integrated with tourism development.
The event, part of the 10th River Festival under the theme “Green Rivers, Cultural Heritage, and Rich Natural Resources,” is being held from Mar. 27 to 29 and aims to promote public health, encourage youth participation, and highlight the tourism potential along Cambodia’s river regions.
H.E. Huot Hak, accompanied by his spouse and Kratie Provincial Governor H.E. Va Thorn, presided over the event, which attracted more than 2,500 participants, including government officials, private sector representatives, members of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), and the general public.
On the occasion, the Minister recalled that Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate, has long regarded tourism as “green gold” and emphasised that “sports live in peace.”
He added that the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, continues to prioritise tourism as a key pillar of the national economy, while also promoting sports through initiatives such as “Sports live in harmony in society under the umbrella of peace,” “Tourism thrives in peace,” and the movement encouraging every citizen to practice at least one sport in their lifetime.
The Minister noted that sports not only improve physical and mental health but also foster unity, strengthen social bonds, build confidence, and promote perseverance.
