Cambodian Royal Embassy, South Korean Disability Association Forge Partnership to Aid Visually, Hearing Impaired
AKP Phnom Penh, March 26, 2026 -- The Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the Republic of Korea is collaborating with the Korea Disabled Welfare Association (KDWA) to enhance accessibility and communication for people with visual and hearing impairments.
On Mar. 25 afternoon, Cambodian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea H.E. Khuon Phon Rattanak held a courtesy meeting and working discussion with Ms. Lee Ju-yeon, Director of the Business Project at the Korea Disabled Welfare Association (KDWA), at the Cambodian Royal Embassy in Seoul.
Established in 1981, KDWA is South Korea’s first welfare association for people with disabilities.
During the meeting, Ms. Lee outlined the association’s goal to foster cooperation with state institutions and organisations in ASEAN member countries, particularly Cambodia. She emphasised KDWA’s commitment to supporting disability-related initiatives, including the provision of clothing, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, and vocational training programmes designed to empower individuals with disabilities to secure sustainable livelihoods.
Ms. Lee also introduced advanced Korean technologies that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate communication for people with visual and hearing impairments.
In reply, Ambassador H.E. Khuon Phon Rattanak welcomed the initiative, noting that Cambodia, having endured over three decades of conflict, is home to approximately 700,000 people with disabilities. He highlighted the Royal Government’s ongoing efforts, alongside various organisations, to support their well-being. The ambassador expressed confidence that KDWA’s project would help improve their quality of life, enhance household incomes, and enable them to contribute more actively to national economic development.
The ambassador further affirmed that the embassy stands ready to facilitate cooperation by arranging meetings with relevant Cambodian ministries and identifying partner organisations to collaborate with KDWA on the implementation of its initiatives.
